LIBRARY ASSISTANT VI (Competition #FTE20-08)

The Cochrane Public Library is looking for a vibrant, engaged, library loving individual to work as a Library Assistant.

Job Description:

The Library Assistant VI provides support to all library technology areas related to materials handling.
This includes, but is not limited to: materials check-in and check-out, processing inter-library loans, packing, un-packing and shipping of library materials, preparation of related reporting and other related duties. The Library Assistant VI also performs some supervisory duties with respect to other tech services personnel.

Required Education, Skills & Experience:
  • Library Technician Diploma
  • Minimum 5 years of Library Tech and customer service experience in a public library
  • Experience in a supervisory role and proven leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of Polaris, VDX, ILL, TRAC
  • Advanced technological literacy skills
  • Proven ability to self-start and work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates a strong interest in public libraries and ongoing professional development
  • Fluency in both verbal and written English communication

Other Requirements:

  • Fluency in languages other than English an asset
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check from the Police Service
  • Valid Alberta driver’s licence (may be required); ability to satisfy insurance requirements

This is a full-time position with 40 set hours per week to be initially scheduled as follows:

Compensation: $22.04 to $23.44 per hour
